A Guy Called Gerald is an artist recognized for his contributions to electronic music, particularly in the development of UK dance music. Originating from the Manchester scene in the late 1980s, he is credited as an early UK acid house producer. His 1988 track "Voodoo Ray" became a significant release, helping to establish British house music. He was also a co-producer for "Pacific State" during his involvement with 808 State. A Guy Called Gerald is noted for his stylistic versatility and experimental approach, which influenced the evolution of global dance culture, including pioneering styles that would become known as jungle and drum and bass. In the early 1990s, he launched his label Juice Box, releasing a series of 12"s that formed the basis for jungle music, later compiled into the "28 Gun Bad Boy" album in 1992. His 1995 album "Black Secret Technology" also received critical acclaim. Throughout his career, A Guy Called Gerald has collaborated with a range of artists and undertaken remix work for notable musicians. He is known for his live performances, often featuring extensive sets without DJ software.
