Alva Noto

Alva Noto, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1965, is an artist known for his work across music, art, and science. His sound experiments in electronic music are characterized by reductionism and a unique system of signs, acoustics, and visual symbols. He has collaborated with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ryoji Ikeda (as part of cyclo), Blixa Bargeld, and Mika Vainio. Alva Noto has toured globally, performing at venues like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou, and Tate Modern. He also scored music for the film 'The Revenant,' which received nominations for various awards. His musical approach extends to his visual art, where he explores scientific phenomena like sound and light frequencies, aiming to integrate sensory perceptions through minimalistic installations. His visual works have been featured in international exhibitions, including documenta X and the Venice Biennale. Alva Noto's work is released through NOTON, a label he founded in 1994, which later merged with RasterMusic to form Raster-Noton before becoming independent again in 2017.
